Tiara cupcakes

Yahoo...another order for a birthday girl turning 3 (I think)! I was not given any theme on this order, so I had a lot of fun creating this look...the tiara and flower is royal icing, lavender buttercream with vanilla cake, with fondant cutout tiny flowers. I hope the birthday girl enjoyed these as much as I enjoyed making them.

cupcakes in a pot!

Another cupcake arrangement for a friends daughter!

Gumpaste flowers

In August I took a gumpaste module class with Cake Craft Shoppe in Sugar Land, TX. What amazing stuff I learnt! The instructor, Sheila Brooks, taught us many different flowers. The class was fun, informative and I came out making and understanding how to make the flowers. The pictures show the creations I made.

Daisy and butterfly

This is a vanilla cupcake with buttercream frosting. The cutouts are fondant with edible lustre on the daisy. The cupcakes were for a girl's birthday.

Swiss Meringue Buttercream

I found this recipe on Dyann's page. I had never tried a butter cream with this technique. The instructions were simple, so I went along with it. This was a very different frosting from what is mostly used on cakes. The texture was really smooth, with a buttery flavor. I would say that it tasted almost like fresh cream in a frosting kinda way....!!! I will definitely make this again.
I mentioned to my hubby that I had tried a new recipe for butter cream, and so of course he recommends that I make some cupcakes to go along with it, so that he could be a taste tester...LOL!!! I made some pineapple cupcakes with fresh pineapple mixed in, and also flavored the butter cream with coconut extract....yummmyy....pina colada!!

beach theme cupcakes

I was trying to create a beach theme, and I had previously used Teddy Grahams in another cake, so I knew what I wanted to use. I then was browsing through Flickr and came across cupcakes by Bakerella, and I knew thats the cupcake that I wanted to make...so thank you for the inspiration.
These are vanilla cupcakes with buttercream. The sand is brown sugar, the tube or beach towel is fruit by the foot, and the umbrellas are cocktail ones.
I really enjoyed making these and they were a hit at my friend's daughter's birthday party.

Tiered or stacked

Learnt how to stack properly. I could still make the cakes a little more leveled as I could see that the top one was a little slanted!
Leaves are painted with copper lustre dust!

Baby cake

I loved making the baby...made out of mexican paste (mix of fondant and gum paste)...why the heck they call it that I have no clue!!

I dyed the fondant a blue - this makes it hard to keep the fondant nice and clean..but I suppose if I used some lustre dust it would hide finger prints on colored fondant.

Day 3 - Sunflowers

This cake was a lot of fun for me. This is a little different as we had to join pieces of fondant, since basketweave is used, then crimp, and decorate.

Day 2 - Swags and roses

Roses were so easy! Swags were a little difficult to control and glue...but practice makes perfect.

Simply simple

This is the first cake. We were taught how to cover cakes in fondant and use some plunger embossers and cutters!

PME Module 1

I am taking professional classes by PME, taught by Sheila Brooks of Cake Craft Shoppe. What a wonderful instructor! This module is on pure fondant. The class is taught and then we have to come up with our own cakes with inspiration from cakes made by Sheila... so the following are what i managed!

Stacked cake - first time ever!

This was my first attempt to a stacked cake.... it was not as easy as it looks on shows and pictures! The cake is coffee with raspberry whipped cream and whipped chocolate ganache. I was given literally a days notice to make this cake....ummm ...why I took this challenge is beyond my thinking at this point. I baked the cakes on Thursday and then on Friday I started at 9am and got finished at 3.30pm! I seriously think I am going to stick to cupcakes, unless given at least a few days notice. Oh, the icing outside is cream cheese (i found a recipe that crusts so that i was able to give it a somewhat smooth look, although if I had a day to do that it would have turned out smoother.

I created 10 boxes of Caketivity samplers consisting of 4 different cupcakes; Mocha Java, Choco Marshmalloreo, Simply Vanilla and Peanut Butter chocolate. Always scratch baked...never out of the box! Hopefully those who buy have enjoyed them!

Just a note

I would like to thank all my family, friends and all my "tasters" for the lovely words and encouragement that you have provided to me in the past few weeks. Keep it up...LOL...it provides me with the boost I need. I suppose my next step would be to go out and market my product...just waiting for my business cards to come in.

Hurray...I just got my first order!

I got my first order for 2 cakes - an 8" 4 layer and a 6" 2 layer - Chocolate Raspberry Ganache. Basically the cake was chocolate with consecutive layers of raspberry whipped cream, whipped chocolate gancahe and then all covered with ganache. The leftover batter I made into cupcakes...once again I love making cupcakes...chocolate cupcake with whipped raspberry cream filling and a decorative star of chocolate ganache (hehehe...thats all I had left, therefore I had to use sparingly).

Sports cake

Hurray, I got my grass tip! The birthday cake for the boys is complete. They have not seen it, so I look forward to their reaction. Yellow cake with buttercream icing. This design was inspired by the paper products I bought for the party.

without a tip

It's 10.32pm and I just got done with the birthday cake for the boys....well I am not quite done as I could not find my grass tip! I really want the grass tip and not other tips (ofcourse I could have done something else), so now I will be off to the cake supply store or craft store to purchase one (what I mean is tomorrow...duh) and then get that finished with so i can take a picture and upload to this site. One tip though: for a nice smooth finish of your icing use a VIVA paper towel...amazing what this product can do!

Flowers in a pot!

I am not satisfied with this totally and will work on making this look better. I made teeny cupcakes with some leftover batter, and therefore I had to make something with them!!! This will most probably go to Jamila's theatre art teacher as she will be tired by this weekend from the production that is taking place in her school (btw - she got a part in the play). Cheers to the teacher as she has to bloom a lot of flowers in her pot!!

cupcakes for business seminar

Just finished making 4 dozen cupcakes of 2 flavors. Coffee toffee and chai latte. The chai latte needs more tweeking - maybe a little stronger and less of a vanilla flavor. This was my first attempt at this flavor. My kids ate all the leftover cupcakes!!

cupcake sampling

Today I am going to make some cupcake samples to give out for an event that my husband is attending. The toss up is making coffee toffee or chai latte or even both!! I have not tried the chai latte version , but came across a great recipe on one of the blogs and am dying to try it.....hmmmnn...well I guess both flavors it is!! I hope to get some feedback on this and maybe a few orders....LOL :)
